Hannah's hearing

Hannah had her hearing tested again after having tubes put in and a partial adenoidectomy done. Her hearing had improved a little, but not significantly. This lets us know that her hearing loss is caused from something other than fluid in her ears. Her Ear, Nose, Throat doctor will be reviewing an old CT scan that she had done previously at Scott and White to see if he can find any deformities that might help explain things at all. He's referred us to a place that will do another hearing test and fit her for hearing aids to hopefully get her hearing closer to the normal range. They'll test her before and after putting the hearing aids in to see if it improves at all.

He's also referred us to the geneticist at the hospital so we can look further into whether or not she may have some sort of syndrome that is causing the different problems she has. Ideally, they'd look into family history, the mother's pregnancy and childbirth, illnesses as a baby, medications given, exposures to toxins, etc. Since all of this is unknown, she's a big jigsaw puzzle to the doctors. We'll be praying for a compassionate and competent geneticist who can help us get closer to figuring out her medical puzzle. This is important primarily because we need to know if we should be looking for other difficulties she may have down the road.

That said, Hannah has been having a wonderful summer and is making some progress with her new speech therapist. Her fits have reduced quite a bit and she's in a better mood overall. She and Brian have had a special week this week with Christian and Faith in Houston. We've had some good time to play games, eat ice cream, go to the SeaWorld water park and swim, go to the zoo, etc. We miss the big siblings, though, and we're ready for them to be home!
